RACE REGULATIONS – ASWAN42
Please read the following regulations carefully in order to have a fun, fair, and safe race. Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in disqualification.
Each runner must complete their prescribed distance on foot. Gaining forward progression by any means other than walking or running is illegal. It is the responsibility of every runner to know and understand the race course. All runners shall follow and remain within the prescribed course. Upon leaving the course, (toilet stops/illness) a participant shall re-enter the course at exact same point and continue from that point.
In the event of illness, fatigue, or an inability to continue the race, runners should signal to the Course Car or inform an organiser at a nutrition station. Runners will then be escorted to the venue. Runners are allowed to stop and rest at any point during the race. Runners should note that at any point a race organiser or manager can remove them from the race if they deem the runner to be ill or unfit to continue. Ambulances are on stand-by during the entire duration of the race.
Athletes will receive their timing chips and race numbers at registration on Thursday. Participants shall plainly display their race numbers at all times. Your race number is your identification. Deliberately covering up/altering/switching a race number will result in disqualification.
Each runner must wear his/her timing chip around their ankle at all times. The timing chip is proof of completion of the prescribed distance, as well as the instrument that will calculate your time. Loss of the timing chip will lead to a DNF (did not finish) result for the runner and a financial penalty.
The cut-off time for all distances is at 12:00 pm (noon). The full marathon begins at 6:00 am. The half-marathon and 10K runs begin at 6:30 am. This means that 42K runners will have 6 hours to complete their distance, while 21K and 10K runners will have 5 hours and 30 minutes to finish. After 12:00 pm, runners can continue the course on their own, but the route will no longer be serviced.
Nutrition stations are spread out along the course every 2.5 - 3 kilometers. Available at the nutrition stations will be water & bananas & High5 Sports Drink
Headphones, iPods/mp3 players, radios, and telephones are allowed. Playing music out loud using portable speakers is prohibited. GPS watches, heart rate monitors, and electronic fitness bands are all permitted.
Runners cannot accept from any person (other than a race official) physical assistance in any form, including food, drink, equipment, support, pacing, or otherwise, unless a specific exception has been made
Littering is strictly prohibited. Please consider the environment when disposing of your rubbish. Plastic cups/water bottles should be discarded of in the bins around the nutrition stations. Littering will result in disqualification.
Participants shall refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct, including the improper use of language or behaviour directed toward an official or another athlete. Participants shall refrain from intentionally or accidentally blocking, charging, obstructing, or interfering with the progress of another participant. Runners shall not commit any dangerous act which could cause injury to any participant. Violations of this section will result in immediate disqualification
